HOA on Afghanistan under Trump’s tough policies

Heart of Asia Conference in Amritsar on December 3-4 will be held in a very tense atmosphere in the context of tense relations between India and Pakistan on cross-border firing, allegations of interference in Afghanistan by Pakistan  and US President Elect Donald Trump is about to designate Pakistan as a terror state .
Foreign Affairs Advisor Sartaz Aziz  is set to participate in the Conference aimed at engaging countries in the region for cooperation for a peaceful and stable Afghanistan.
His visit to India provides an  opportunity for defusing tense relations between India  and Pakistan at a time when  cross border violations between the two countries  have reached the highest level after the Uri attack .
Besides, India suspects Pakistan is creating Kashmir crisis after Hizbul Commander Burhan Wani encounter While Pakistan raised Kashmir issue at various International forums but found no takers.

Heart of Asia Conference  will deliberate on the issues of Afghanistan development; the role of HoA members , Status of Confidence building measures, integrating Afghanistan, promoting connectivity;progress on Counter-Terrorism efforts in Afghanistan, promoting regional stability and security.

The ties between India-Pakistan worsened after the September 29 surgical strikes conducted by Indian forces against terrorist in Pakistan occupied Kashmir following rise in infiltration and ceasefire violations.

A paradigm shift in US policies is apparent as Trump  may think of complete exit from Afghanistan and Pakistan and Afghanistan will have to find a way to deal with Taliban menace on their own. With Donald considering to approve US Congressional bill  of designating  Pakistan a terrorist state it is quite likely that US  will stop funding to both Kabul and Islamabad  as he has announced that every country will have to foot their own bills for security.
