Modi’s hazardous approach in dealing with terror attacks in Kashmir

IN spite of having prior intelligence inputs of a terror attack by Lashkar-e-Toiba organisation, Modi government chose to avoid proper analysis of the situation that could have enabled defence forces to crush the terrorists and minimise casualties of the armed forces.
Such approach has already been found in Pathankot and Gurdaspur terror attacks
Eight CRPF personnel were killed on June 25, 2016 when Lashkar terrorists opened fire at CRPF convoy in Pampore, Jammu-Kashmir– while causality on the militant side was only limited to two. This 35km stretch has been a death trap for our security forces since 2015 and death toll on the security forces have always been high mainly due to over ground workers in the valley who are found to be always sympathetic to the militants.
Intelligence agencies report revealed that they had the prior information about group of 10 lashkar terrorists, led by Abu Ghaznavi and Majid Bhai, reaching Malangam village of Bandipora on June 18 . The report even gives great amount of details about the routes and strategy adopted by the Laskhar militants to evade security forces trailing them for a week.
It is strange that Modi government again failed to allow more deployment of troops even since 2015 and no logistics in the form of armoured vehicles or tanks were provided that has resulted in demolarising effect on our security forces.
On the contrary , Lashkar terrorists with their upbeat spirits publicly in their rally in Pakistan ,boasted of their action of infiltrating into Indian territory and successfully targeting our security forces.
Abdur Rehman Makki, second-in-command of Jamaat-ud-Dawa and brother-in-law of Hafiz Saeed, has termed the June 25 attack as” two lions (terrorists) surrounded the convoy of jackals (CRPF jawans )” and praised JUD fighters saying “ do sheron ne gidaron ke convoy ko gher liya “.
Saeed told the rally that “when (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi was signing agreements in Washington, the Srinagar-based XVI Corps commander General Hooda (Northern Army Commander Lt Gen D S Hooda) was saying “they have lost the war in Kashmir”.
Saeed even praised the people of Gujranwala and called them “shaheedon ke waarison (the children of martyrs)… .mubarak ho aapko… aap ki khoon rang la rahi hai (congratulations. your blood is showing its colour)”.
Now,Prime Minister Narendra Modi must stop his useless oratory and start doing some action on securing our borders rather than just saying that “ he is completely new to the office and Delhi.”
Several attacks have taken place in Jammu and Kashmir including the pathankot air force base and recently the Pampore terror attack in which 8 CRPF jawans were martyred but nothing has been done to tighten our security and to secure our borders by the Modi government.
Modi recently gave an interview to a private news channel and Goswami was as soft as velvet and posed questions like as if a “PR program “ is going on and Goswami went on praising Prime Minister Modi like a sycophant.
In the interview ,Modi pointed to the multiple power centres in Pakistan to explain New Delhi’s difficulty in drawing a “Lakshman rekha” (red line) for talks with Pakistan .
Modi should rather take opposition into confidence or learn from his predecessors how they were handling Pakistan’s multiple power centres and stop blaming the former prime ministers .
Even after two years of his tenure, Modi foreign policy team is devoid of any comprehensive policy towards Pakistan .In turn, India is witnessing increase in infiltration, terror attacks from across the border and Chinese incursions as well .

The relations with China, Pakistan and Russia has worsened and nobody has the clear answer to the fate of the 39 Indians, kidnapped by the dreaded ISIS in Iraq in June 2014. External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj said, dismissing reports about their killing and insisting that efforts to trace them are on.

The Modi government thus appears to lack the sense of defence operations mainly due to political interference especially when defence personnel are hampered in properly conducting the combat operations.

Similar situations were noticed when 18 soldiers were killed in deadly ambush in Chandel in Manipur on June 4,2015 even when the convoy was traversing in their guarded territory.
The ensuing pursuit of militants then conducted in Myanmar Border resultantly turned out to be farce as no person from the militant side was killed .The Myanmar government has denied that the operation even occurred on its side of the border despite India’s claim that it did. Other basic details,
such as the time of the operation, the casualties incurred, and the degree to which there was coordination with Myanmar, are still unclear due to conflicting reports.
It is amply clear that our political establishment is unduly interfering in the defence operations . It is high time that military authorities are given full control over such operations
