The treatment which is being given to the Shiv Sena at this juncture inspite of a decades old alliance comes as a lesson for Thackeray’s dynasty and to all the allies of the BJP across India. Sena Chief Uddhav Thackeray should now explore another option to form a government, independent of each other, as their Plan B by taking Congress and NCP on board.
The Bharatiya Janta party which emerged in the state of Maharashtra on the shoulders of Shiv Sena is now treating the regional party like a junior partner.
BJP is coming to power by managing the MLAs and the electorate and the allies . BJP has a history of betraying its allies to the extent that they (allies) even lost their existential basis. There have been many instances like Peoples Democratic Party where the BJP blamed PDP squarely for the surge in insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir.
Shiv Sena has finally called off its scheduled meeting with the Bharatiya Janata Party leadership after Devendra Fadnavis asserted that the Chief Minister’s post belongs exclusively to the BJP and rubbished the Sena’s claims of a 50-50 deal. Fadnavis said he would be Chief Minister of Maharashtra for a full term and no plan of a rotational chief minister was agreed upon with the Sena, which is demanding an equal share of power after state polls.
BJP make alliances as per their convenience just like in Bihar with JDU, in Maharashtra with Shiv Sena, PDP in Jammu and Kashmir (whose leaders are in detention), SAD in Punjab, BJP is desperate to make alliances with regional parties in South India . BJP has an internal desire and craze to delete the names of freedom fighters belonging to Indian National Congress and Gandhi family so whenever India’s name is taken it should come synonym with BJP or RSS.
Fadnavis said that BJP president Amit Shah had indicated to him that no such formula had been discussed. “There is no doubt in my mind that I will be Chief Minister for five years,” he told reporters. “I assure you that this will be a BJP-led government. The Shiv Sena was not promised CM’s post for two-and-a-half years when the alliance was formalised before the Lok Sabha polls,” he told reporters. BJP’s Mumbai spokesperson Suresh Nakhua reiterated, “It will be BJP government and BJP CM, I can assure you. Rest all are meaningless.”
Bhupendra Yadav, a close aide of Union Home Minister and BJP President Amit Shah was tasked to negotiate with Sanjay Raut and Subhash Desai But Sena has called off the meeting after Fadnavis reply .
In the name of delivering governance, BJP just wants to cling to power by whatever means.Thackeray even sought a written assurance from the BJP over power sharing deal of 50:50 but the Saffron party doesn’t even care about the ethics.When there is no trust between the ally partners, for how long the people will trust the BJP when the saffron party has been using narratives to win elections after elections.
The BJP won 105 seats and the Shiv Sena 56. Together, the two have 161 seats, way past the half-way mark of 144, but with the BJP emerging as dependent for a majority, the Sena has set its terms.
Uddhav Thackeray said: “Before the Lok Sabha elections, Amitbhai (Amit Shah) had come to my house, and we had sat together and decided on a formula. Now the time has come to implement that formula.
Giving ample advise to Jannayak Janta Party (JPP) leader Dushyant Chautala, Raut said,”There’s no Dushyant Chautala here whose father is in jail. We do politics of truth in Maharashtra. if someone tries to keep us away from power, it’s not called politics of truth. We are seeing what’s happening and how low people can stoop.”
Referring to the BJP which formed the government in Haryana(inspite of six short of the magic number) with the help of Dushyant Chautala, whose Jannayak Janata Party ran an election campaign on Jat consolidation and anti-BJP rhetoric, by keeping the chief minister-ship post for itself.
With the Congress-NCP combine ruling the state for 15 years before being swept out of power in 2014.Having come fourth with 44 seats in the recently-concluded Assembly election, the party is not in a position to move forward but waiting for the right signals from the Sena.
