Departuring from a traditional policy of strategic restraint to the terror attacks from across the border,in a hurriedly called media briefing, the Army announced that India on Wednesday late night launched surgical strikes on terror groups in Pakistan occupied Kashmir crossing the Line of Control inflicting significant casualties and damage to terror infrastructure.
Director general of Military Operations Lt General Ranbir Singh told media persons that he had also informed his Pakistani counterpart that India has carried out surgical strikes on Wednesday night .
This was announced in a press conference jointly by the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of defence.In the morning on Thursday , an urgent meeting of the Cabinet committee on security (CCS) was held to review the situation along the LoC ,which was presided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Singh said ,” The raids were conducted after having credible intelligence inputs of a massive infiltration bid from across the LoC to target Kashmir Valley as well as Indian cities. There were launch pads at the LoC where terrorists were present waiting to infiltrate the nation and attack areas in Kashmir and metros across the country.The operations were focused to ensure that these terrorists do not succeed in endangering lives of citizens in our country. During the counter terror operations,India caused significant casualties on terrorists and those who support them."
"India cannot allow terrorists to operate across the LoC (Line of Control) and strike with impunity,"he said
The Defence ministry said ,” India conducted surgical strikes last night across the LoC to safeguard our nation.”
DGMO Lt Gen Ranbir Singh said “Significant casualties have been caused to terrorists and those trying to shield them. We don’t have a plan to further conduct such strikes.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi informed President Pranab Mukherjee, Vice-President Hamid Ansari,former PM Manmohan Singh, J&K Governor and chief minister Mehbooba Mufti about the surgical strikes by the Indian Army.
