Lessons of Israel-Hamas conflict

When Israel provoked Hamas on 14th November this year by killing Ahmed Jabari, the hamas military chief of staff,it did little service to its own cause of
surviving in Mid east  in the long run. After all, this was not the sole manner whereby it could demonstrate the strategic superiority of its newly developed  Iron Dome missile that was capable of intercepting  enemy missiles.

The weeklong intense battles that ensued  witnessed  raining  of missiles across the borders of Gaza and Israel which resulted in damage of property and lives of Gazan already living under siege and extreme suffering. But part of missiles fired from Hamas that remained unintercepted  also reached region of Jerusalem  and Tel Aviv. Later a bus also exploded within the territories of Israel. This also sent  alarm bells ringing in Israel and prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the recall of a huge number of (75000) reservists for launching ground operations against Gaza, though the intentions were also to occupy  chunks of areas of neighbouring countries. No wonder in ground operations Israel would also have suffered sufficient causalities that it did not due to air superiority.

US President Barack Obama  ensured immediate de-escalation of the threatened ground operations  and temporary truce  was brokered between Hamas and Israel thanks to the role played by Egyptian  President  Mohammed Morsi  who has ideologiocal ties with Hamas and had to ensure  that transition underway in his country due to Arab Spring is not jeopardized due to  threatened ground operations  .Though the powers assumed by him through decree continue to stir the feeling of his countrymen who doubt the  semblance of acts  of Hosni Mubarak when he grabbed  dictatorial powers.

The sufferings of Arab people  that resulted in Tsunami  of spring revolution that overthrew dictators in Tunisia, Egypt, Libya and  rages on seriously threatening the regimes of Yemen and Bahrain and eludes solution at the hands of US (mentor of autocratic regimes in Mid East installed to perpetuate suffering on their own countrymen) has become a headache for the superpower . More so the situation some how also drags US into fiscal cliff that heralds a severe US recession and worldwide slowdown.

Similar flawed policies  have been  pursued by Israel by persistently denying the rights and privileges of Palestinians  and dragging on with the peace process  and not implementing the two-state solution   that would enable Israel and Palestine to exist side by side in harmony and amicable environment.

Weapons superiority do not always determine the  outcomes of the conflicts . The communities persistently wronged against are normally instilled with valour and that they are able to reverse the outcomes of conflict even in the face of the considerable odds. Otherwise how would have world powers of the yore crumbled ,as they also indulged in arrogance.Wisdom thus ordains that continuous suffering    inflicted on any community  should be ruthlessly avoided.
