The Narendra Modi government has
been in office for two years and
India ‘s foreign policy is tumbling from one pitfall to another with no clear laid out strategy to take the country forward.
Analyzing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign policy
is not tough as Modi travelled to 26 countries in 2015 as well as hosted many foreign dignitaries in addition to 50 African leaders and in
2016, he visited Belgium, USA and Saudi Arabia.
Modi tried to attract maximum
investments in India by way of his initiatives like Make in India , Digital
India, Smart Cities, Clean Ganga, Swachh Bharat, Skill India and start up India
to attract foreign capital in terms of FDI
but no business policies has been
implemented so far.
Moreover his engagement with an unreliable Pakistan was
rewarded with a terror attack on Pathankot Air Force base and with repeated ceasefire violations along the
international border in Jammu & Kashmir
with infiltrations as well.
Pakistan even went ahead and accused India of fomenting instability and
even terrorism in the restive province of Balochistan, with frequent claims of
Indian currency, weapons and ‘agents’ being spotted in the region.
Not only with Pakistan, Modi
government failed to tackle the dragon
as China stopped UN sanctions committee
from designating Jaish-e- Mohammad chief
and Pathankot attack mastermind Maulana Masood
Azhar as terrorist, maintaining that the case “did not meet the
requirements” of the Security Council.Modi government tried to act tough by
inviting Chinese dissidents from across the world including the World Uyghur
Congress leader Dolkun Isa for
Dharamsala international conference seeking transition to democracy in
the communist country organised by the
US-based ‘Initiatives for China’ which was addressed by Dalai lama .
But within hours visa granted to a
Chinese dissident leader was cancelled
after Beijing protested the move, calling him a terrorist.
Third blunder was registered after 10 days of Prime Minister Modi’s visit to Saudi Arabia .Leaders
from more than 50 Muslim states have termed the resolution of the Kashmir
dispute between Pakistan and India as “indispensable” for bringing peace in
South Asia as they called on India to implement all relevant UN resolutions on
the dispute.
Heads of governments from the
57-member states of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in their final communique reaffirmed their support for
the people of Jammu and Kashmir to their right of self-determination.
They further called on India to implement
all relevant UN resolutions on the dispute in accordance with the will of the
people “expressed through the democratic method of a free and impartial
plebiscite conducted under the auspices of the United Nations.
Modi made enough efforts to have maximum political engagements with many countries but his diplomacy failed to enhance
bilateral ties as not a single path
breaking deal has been signed or implemented . While India’s relations with neighboring
Nepal and Maldives deteriorated further . Modi has taken a confrontational attitude at home .
Meanwhile, American Senators have
introduced US-India Defence cooperation act
in the Congress which if passed would elevate the status
of the Indo-US defence ties on par with that of Ameirca’s closet allies
like Nato and Israel .
