US President Donald Trump's Middle East policy is being aggressively formulated as his team is engaged in intense diplomacy with Palestine and Israel to resolve the Middle East conflict .
Trump is set to meet his Palestinian counterpart Mahmoud Abbas at the White House on May 3.His meeting with Abbas holds much significance as he is meeting Palestinian leader after having wide range discussions with Benjamin Netanyahu.Moreover Trump's advisor Jason greenblatt, an Orthodox Jew held talks with Abbas at a resort on the Dead Sea in Jordan during Arab League summit.
Abbas's spokesperson Nabil Rudeinah said the meeting was a follow -up to exchange ideas for his first meeting with Trump.
Greenblatt's tweeted that close cooperation between the European Union and the US is essential to achieve peace in the Middle East.
All these initiatives by Trump and his administration show that US President is very serious about Middle East peace process and intends to push the peace process very soon.
The main point is that recently Arab League 's final communique reaffirmed the 2002 Beirut summit Arab Peace initiative that prescribed an independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders with Jerusalem as its capital will be the mainstay of the agreement .The Arab leaders also opposed Israel's settlements on the West bank .
Both Abbas and Trump will discuss ways to achieve peace throughout the Middle East,including a comprehensive settlement that would end Israeli-Palestinian conflict permanently.
As there are many controversial issues to be resolved like Netanyahu's plan to increase settlements in West bank and Gaza .
Israel had passed a law declaring all of Jerusalem as its eternal capital,including the Arab east of the holy city it annexed after the six-day war of 1967,which was declared null and void by UN Security Council..
While delivering his speech at the AIPAC conference, Vice President Mike Pence said "Let me be clear President Trump is also invested in finding an equitable and just solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and Trump will never compromise the safety and security of the Jewish State of Israel."
In a departure from longstanding US policy, Trump also stated that he "could live with either" a one-state or a two-state solution to resolve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Meanwhile, Greenblatt studied at a Jewish seminary in one of Israel's West Bank settlements and Trump during his campaign also hinted that he was no longer supportive of a two-state solution for which he was criticised in the region.
For decades several US Presidents have been involved to resolve the most complicated Israel-Palestine conflict but failed to find any solution acceptable to both the concerned parties.
