The recent ambush of the Indian army convoy through a joint operation by ULFA and NSCN(K) Digboi,in Tinsukia district in Assam is a reminder of various ambush operations conducted previously in this region . This not only results in continual casualties of our armed forces but are highlights the activities of ISI in trying to disrupt India’s defence and seeks to seriously weaken the unity of our country.
Surrounded by Burma , Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal,and China with extremely hostile relations with Pakistan,ISI with the explicit support of Pakistan army have already created a network with the militant groups in India's north eastern states particularly Assam, Manipur, Tripura and Nagaland which are connected to various insurgent groups inimical to the interests of India as a united nation.
A narrow strip of land known as Siliguri Corridor or Chicken's neck is located in West Bengal and that connects India's north eastern states with the countries of Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan.
ISI and China are also creating problems in Nepal while interfering politically against the Indian interests.Pakistan’s intelligence agency ISI is involved in illegal migration of Myanmar's Rohingya minority Muslims , many with roots in Bangladesh and often clashing violently with the ethnic population of Assam .This results in precarious security problems for our region in the northeast.
Hein G Kiessling in his book 'Faith,Unity,Discipline:The ISI of Pakistan has amply highlighted the
network and disruptive activities of Pakistan in India .
He writes " In 1990,the National SOcialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) and United Liberated Front of Asom (ULFA) developed contact with ISI via the Pakistan embassy in Dhaka and in January 1991 two six- member ULFA groups travelled to Islamabad for training with new identities, fake passports and a third 10-member group followed in 1993."
His book says " In 1993 ULFA had contacts with the Chinese military as the first weapons supply came from a Chinese ship in 1995,another in 1997 by a land route through Bhutan.”
Even In 2002 West Bengal chief Minister Buddhadev Bhattacharjee had accused Pakistan's ISI of supporting ULFA and Kamtapur Liberation Organisaton in destabilisng north Bengal .
As China is not interested in listening to the concerns of India on the issues of terrorism emanating from Pakistan because Beijing is more concerned about its economic interests connected with the China Pakistan Economic Corridor running through Pakistan occupied Kashmir upto Gwadar and it would be in the fitness of things for India to strengthen its diplomatic ties with the various countries upto Persian Gulf to tackle Pakistan in the face of rising China
