Expansionist designs of Russia in Ukraine, China’s in South China Sea extending to the Middle East and the imminent threat from ultra jihadists of Islamic State across the world have prompted US President Barack Obama to designate some countries to re-balance Asia in which India occupies a strategic position.
Obama’s visit to India in
January was apparently a part of his mission to re-balance the entire
Asian region spreading from Far East
to Pacific. Engaged on this vision for the last two years of his second
term as President and thus realizing the special status of India, Obama
contemplated to stabilize this region which is witnessing fast
changing situations politically, security wise, rapidly increasing
influence of Muslim fundamentalism as well as rapid race
among Asian powers like China, Russia , Japan and various
leaderships in central Asia and Persian Gulf vis-a vis extreme form
of jihadi movements ( ISIS) in Iraq and Syria . These could
be addressed by giving prominent roles to different
countries commanding influence over their surrounding
territories ,Obama thus offered a role to India in areas
running from Afghanistan to Central Asia and to Asia Pacific.
This is quite evident from the US-India Joint Strategic Vision for Asia Pacific
and the Indian Ocean Region, which reflects the intent of the two countries to
shape the region.
India being on the threshold of domestic transformation and
desirous of occupying meaningful space in the regional and global
front in view of its size, largest democracy in the world ,a strategic
position being Central to Muslim world on the West and
rising China in the East, has to occupy a special status .The prominent
role being offered by none other than the sole superpower
should be availed by playing our cards diplomatically . Already our
country had been sidelined in almost all the matters due to
blunders of the Congress that ran the country after independence.
While Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already embarked on making
India self reliant in terms of industrial, military and
on economic matters so that it can exert its due weight in
international matters and global economy. . Indian government
will have to adopt austerity measures to fulfil this tedious task . This
would be dealt on war footing .
Armed with six pont template ,External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj went
to China to boost Sino-India
ties and said Prime Minister Modi would make an "outcome driven
visit" to China
before the BJP-led government completes one year in office in May 2015.
Swaraj proposed the two countries should follow action oriented approach,
broad base bilateral engagement, convergence of common, regional and global
interests, develop new areas of cooperation, expand strategic communication,
fullfill common aspirations to usher "Asian century".
Very wisely Modi has already initiated his vision of conferring rights
to Indian Diaspora living in any part of the world. Pledging to transform one
trillion economy to a 10 trillion Indian economy funds have
started flowing from different parts of the world
by way of investments in Indian developmental works.Keeping this in mind
India should suitably exert its weight in the neighbouring countries
China, Japan andCentral Asia .
India should weigh pros and cons of working alongwith US
who can help us bestow permanent membership in the United nations and a
proper place in the international monetary system rather than playing a
subdued role to ‘ rising China ‘ which is infact implementing
expansionist designs and may damage India’s global ambitions
by implementing his own maritime silk route .
New Silk Route
will establish a Chinese foothold in the Indian Ocean.Xi called for the
re-establishment of the old sea networks to create a twenty-first century
"maritime Silk Road" to foster
international connectivity, scientific and environmental research and fishery
activities. But it appears to envisage a system of linked ports, infrastructure
projects and special economic zones in Southeast Asia and the northern Indian
Ocean -connecting Western China with South and Central
Asia .
Through “New Silk Road Economic Belt” and the “Maritime Silk Road” projects,
China’s hidden agenda
appears to expand Beijing's economic,
political and strategic influence not just to Central and Southeast Asia,
but also in the Persian Gulf, and the Middle East
as well.
China's assertive stance
in the South and East China Seas
and the new Silk Road initiative provoked significant geopolitical apprehension
among its neighbors -- including Japan,
Vietnam, the Philippines and Singapore.
The falling economy of Russia
and slowdown in China
in view of its aging population should be thoroughly
examined .
Annoyed with US President Obama who selected India
for a leadership role in the region, China
announced plans to invite Russian President Vladimir Putin during China's
military parade to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the victories of World War
II.
China usually holds a
military parade every 10 years to celebrate the founding of the People's
Republic of China
since 1949.
To counter India's Obama
braggadocio, Pakistan has
invited Chinese President Xi Jinping to be the chief guest at Pakistan's
national day celebrations next month. So one can clearly judge the
changing equations and alliances in Asia between Russia
, China and Pakistan on one
side. Now, which group should India
join -- Indian population is not comfortable with China.
At a time when no employment is being created only US can assist
in bringing new jobs as well as in “Make in India”
policy initiative and enabling India's
financial assistance..
Modi Government should thus be cautious in finalizing the
65 year old contentious border dispute with China keeping
in mind the national interests.
